Invest in justice and support your community by contributing to the Maryland Bar Foundation.
As the philanthropic arm of the Maryland State Bar Association, we award grants that support local nonprofit organizations in their efforts to provide public education as it relates to the legal field, offer legal services to vulnerable community members, and recognize luminaries in the legal profession through our fellowship program.
The Maryland Bar Foundation supports many ventures, including the Association for the Public Defender of Maryland; The Anne Arundel Conflict Resolution Center, Inc.; Maryland Crime Victims’ Resource Center; Tahirih Justice Center; Conflict Resolution Center of Baltimore County; and The Women’s Law Center of Maryland.
Each year, the Foundation receives an average of $236,000 in grant requests. Nearly every request seeks funding for a worthy and valuable cause. Without your assistance, we would be unable to fulfill almost ⅔ of these requests. With your help, we can achieve our 2023-2024 goal to increase our funding capabilities and provide more support to community organizations and local nonprofits.
Donating to the Maryland Bar Foundation makes a significant, tangible difference in our communities and the profession. We appreciate your support and assistance in making a crucial contribution today.

To help fund Anne Arundel County’s only direct service provider for domestic violence
The Maryland Bar Foundation awarded YWCA of Annapolis a Spring 2018 grant for $4,316. The funding will go towards helping the YWCA pursue its mission of “eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.”
To reinvigorate its attorney recruitment and training efforts
Maryland Bar Foundation grants will help fund the Maryland Partners for Justice Conference – a collaboration of the bar, the judiciary, legal services non-profits, other human and social services agencies, government and legislative representatives, and advocates interested in ensuring fair and equal access to legal services and the justice system. PBRC will develop panel topics on cutting-edge issues impacting marginalized and low-income individuals and communities, sharing knowledge and developing strategies to effectively impact those populations and the legal system.
Funds used to provide access to justice for all
Because of the support of the Maryland Bar Foundation, MVLS has the ability to implement and record an intensive training series for pro bono volunteers. With this additional educational resource, MVLS will be able to expand its panel of volunteer attorneys, serving a greater number of vulnerable individuals and families throughout Maryland and advancing civil justice in our state.
